title says it all - A day of things that made you go “YUK!!!”.
following gives some idea of the main activities that were undertaken, however
pictures tell the whole story.
event welcomed back The London Science Museum and also introduced the First Aid
Nursing Yeomanry. The BBC also gave generous support to the event with a
contribution of challenges from the CBBC show “RAVEN”.
guts obviously featured heavily as will slime and gunk. Creative thinking,
teamwork and mental agility all helped to engage the youngsters in a full
day which was like no other. Even though the title may sound off-putting, the
event was crammed full of interesting fact and practical experience. The graphic
demonstration of the digestive system which followed the passage of food through
the body from start to finish was quite astonishing and resulted in many urrrs,
aaaahhhhs and YUK’s!
The day was crammed full as usual and the children
all managed to navigate their way through the programme which included a message
from Raven with and hands on solving of challenging 3D puzzles which required
teamwork to complete, a workshop involving touch, taste & smell (trust and
the difficulties blind people face), a session dedicated to making slime (physical
change and chemical properties) and a gruesome session on First Aid and battlefield
The children all took home goody bags which included a handy pocket
size guide to first aid, ‘Science Museum’ pencils and several other
items including their own packet of slime!
106 children took part and all made
our Polish visitors particularly welcome. Many have already formed friendships
and some are looking forward to our second trip to Poland which is pencilled
in for June next year.
