27th November 2004
fired the imagination of all the children at their Force & Flight event
when they captured Mrs Margaret Cooke (Headteacher of Chiddingstone Primary School)
inside a giant bubble.
92 children aged 6 – 11 representing more that 10 schools attended the
event which featured the London Science Museum giving interesting and exciting
demonstrations of force in many forms. “Phil the Stunt Frog” went
through a frightening series of experiments that included skateboarding, parachuting
and being launched on a rocket – all in the Grand Hall of Chiddingstone
Castle and all in the name of science.
The day was action packed as the children took part in the hands on workshops;
of special interest to the children (not least because of Hedwig in “Harry
Potter”) was the session with 7 live owls where the children were all allowed
to handle the birds under the watchful eye of Rosemarie Sumner.
All the youngsters were extremely well behaved and left at the end of the day
clutching their goody bags as well as muttering words like “friction”, “gravity”, “surface
tension” and “molecules” to their parents as they were signed
TIC would like to record their thanks to the 23 volunteers (including teachers!)
that helped make the day such a success.
